Faithful at all times

Every Christian faces the daily challenge of being faithful.  We want to come after Jesus, we know we must deny ourselves, we say ‘yes’ to taking up our cross, and we do it daily. (Luke 9:23) 

But Christians know that those moments can arise, when least expected, in the midst of our busy day, when our faithfulness is challenged.  When suddenly there is a cost to our faith.  Even a small cost. Risk. Dilemma.  And the challenge is: will we be faithful?

Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for He is faithful that promised;)  Hebrews 10:23

Here is an article, re-printed from the June 2003 CViE Newsletter, reminding us of the timeless imperative of being faithful, and the faithfulness of our God to honour those who honour Him:

“I was 18 years old and it was my first day at college. I knew no one there. Feeling lonely and with some trepidation I went to the dining room to have my meal. As I sat at the table my mind was in turmoil, – dare I bow my head and say grace? I believe the Lord helped me to do so.

I had nearly finished my meal when another student came up to me and said “Will you be my friend? Before I left home I prayed that I would be given a Christian friend, and I have just seen you say grace.”

We remained good friends through our years at college. On Sunday mornings we would leave our hall of residence together to go to our respective chapels.

Although she has been in New Zealand for many years we have kept in regular contact when she has come home and by letter. Recently she wrote to say that she, like me, had lost her husband. She said “Well, we are both widows now – but we still have Jehovah Jireh.””
