Who We Are | What We Do | How We Operate | How We Are Funded | Keeping In Touch
Who we are…
- Christian Values in Education (CViE) is an independent registered UK charity established in 1998.
- The world of education is a battleground for the minds of children and our purpose is:
“to equip and encourage Christians to stand fast on the Word of God in education today”.
- We do this through research, keeping our supporters informed, providing resources and facilitating networking opportunities, all depending on the Lord for his guidance and help.
- Although a small organisation, we endeavour to help:
- All those involved in education – parents, children, young people, teachers, governors etc.
- Across all stages of education – early years, primary, secondary, higher etc.
- Whatever educational setting – home, state, Christian, private etc.
- We firmly believe that children are the “heritage of the Lord” and that parents are both responsible for bringing them up in the “nurture and admonition” of the Lord, and accountable for the choices made in their education. This accountability cannot in turn be relinquished to any third party such as ‘the state’.
- Although we have connections to the GS group of churches, our supporter base transcends ‘church groupings’ just as the issues we seek to address impact all Christians who:
- Have a prayerful interest for the children and young people growing up in a post-Christian world.
- Hold to a biblical worldview informed by the truths and teachings of the Word of God.
- Are concerned about the God dishonouring and harmful ideologies and practices that are increasingly being promoted and taught in schools and universities.
- A summary of our key beliefs can be found here.
What we do…
We seek to fulfil our purpose to ‘equip and encourage’ in a number of ways:
- Keeping abreast of ongoing developments in education, and of other cultural, societal and topical issues that may impact into education;
- Regularly communicating with our supporters on such topics in a range of ways – web articles, blogs, emails, newsletters, booklets and other media – all from a biblical perspective;
- Holding an annual national conference that provides keynote speakers on topical issues, children’s activities, resources and the opportunity for delegates to meet together for fellowship and to share experiences;
- Facilitating online focused discussion groups and seminars on important, relevant and topical issues;
- By providing links to external resources, organisations and events of interest to our supporters;
- Contributing to consultations and making representation to government and other organisations on educational matters;
- Working closely with other organisations that share a mutual concern for the education of children and young people (such as the Christian Institute, Christian Concern, Lovewise).
How we operate…
- The direction and oversight of the Charity is the responsibility of the trustees who meet regularly and give their time freely.
- We currently have 9 trustees from a range of backgrounds and with different experiences of education.
- In 2021, due to a grant from the Providence Chapel Croydon Charity we were able to employ a part-time Business and Development Manager to support the work of CViE.
- This appointment has allowed us to begin to develop and expand our activities.
- In early 2023 the funding will come to an end and we look to the Lord to provide the financial means to enable this role to continue.
How we are funded…
- CViE is entirely funded through the voluntary generosity of our supporters and we would express our thanks to all who contribute.
- We make no charge for any of our publications, resources, or events.
- As we seek to grow and develop the work of CViE in these increasingly challenging times, we look to the Lord to constrain our supporters and those interested in our work to donate to enable us to continue our important work.
