Preparing to vote 2024

As Christians consider their vote in the 2024 election, CViE would encourage our supporters to access guidance available online.

For believers, the Christian Institute is a reliable source, and this year are offering Election Briefing 2024, which can be accessed as a downloadable PDF, or via an interactive online version

The Christian Institute analyses each of the parties’ policies on education plus other issues of concern to Christians, including religious liberty, marriage and the family, and the sanctity of life.   CViE focusses on issues in education, and in the CI Election Briefing, under the title ‘Background information on the policy issues in this briefing’, is a section dedicated to education (pages 35-36).

CI also hosted webinars outlining the importance of voting and how best to engage with would-be MPs.  All their election resources are available at the.ci/election.

Helpfully, the CI also discusses the principles of voting, particularly how a Christian ought to view the providence of God in such a provision.  Also, of particular interest, the Briefing reminds the reader of the record of those parties when they have been in power.

As is the case with CViE, the Christian Institute is a registered charity and does not endorse any political party or candidate.

Because Christians are commanded to submit to the law and those in authority –

Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. (1 Peter 2:13-14)

– we ought to inform ourselves about what those ordinances of men just may be.

There are other resources available that Christians may choose to access:

Association of Christian Teachers :  Published an Election Briefing Article in their Summer Journal 2024, and a podcast, ‘Navigating the Election: Education Policy and Christian Teachers’.

Evangelical Alliance: Has a ‘General Election’ resource page, “to help you to live out your Christian faith in your attitudes and actions”.

Parent Power: Has an article on an issue of particular interest to many Christians, ‘VAT on school fees – a briefing for parents’.

Religion Media Centre: Have also offered a commentary on the VAT issue.

We pray that all our supporters will be given a real burden to pray that the Lord will direct our hearts and minds to vote next week.  Most especially, that we will each lay before the Lord the needs of our United Kingdom to be turned once again to seek the Saviour, to live according to the Word of God, and that there will yet be godly Members of Parliament raised to office who will stand for the truth.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; And the people whom he hath chosen for his inheritance.  Psalm 33:12

As stated above, CViE offers no specific guidance on what party our supporters should vote for.
