The current RSHE issues are nothing new

The man of wisdom reminds us in Ecclesiastes – or perhaps informs us for the first time because we’d never before realized it until, under the influence of the Holy Ghost, he said so – that there is no new thing under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 1:9)  That the thing that hath been, it is that which shall be.

It is helpful as Christians to bear these truths in mind and avoid presumption and pride based on the purported uniqueness of our own age, and to be encouraged by the Ebenezers of the proven power of God to carry the Church through.

For that reason, we often find it beneficial to review what CViE has printed in the past, as it serves to teach us that whatever we are facing today has not arisen from nowhere.  It had its roots in the past, and it has been faced before, in one form or another.  When we learn this lesson, we are ready to then consider our own actions today with a view to how they might affect the future, and we are much less likely to be downcast.

In the CViE Newsletter from June 2007, mention was made of “Moral Recovery UK”, an organization that was publishing and distributing leaflets giving information on sex education material being used in state schools.  The dismay and concern of 2007 at such content is just as real in the content of 2023, and the agenda behind remains the same.  Our enemy has not changed.  May we as Christians be equipped to confront this malignant spirit, and never yield, ever obeying the command of our Lord, fear not, trust only. (Luke 8:50)

From the CViE Newsletter, June 2007:

“One leaflet that has come to our notice explains that children are being taught that it is acceptable to indulge in sexual activity provided precautions are taken against conception or contacting disease. It states in the Education Act of 1993 that sex education should be provided to give children regard to moral considerations and the value of family life. However, the content of education material published by the Family Planning Association includes the leaflet titled ‘4Boys’ which implies that no form of sexual conduct is perverted or wrong. Other leaflets promote experimenting with sexual activity to find what is ‘right for you’.

The Moral Recovery UK leaflet states “Modern sex education lessons undermine children’s natural sense of modesty and respectability. They cruelly lead to abnormal and immoral practices, which inevitably lead to ill-health and unhappiness.” Actions parents can take are recommended such as speaking to the Headteacher or Chairman of School Governors and to consider insisting on the legal right to withdraw children from such lessons. The Moral Recovery UK leaflet outlines the Scriptural principles of sexual activity as only within marriage; faithfulness in marriage; and homosexuality forbidden. It states in addition the Scriptural principles of modesty in dress and language, and respect to be shown between man and woman.”

We don’t know where Moral Recovery UK is today, but we do know that the Church remains, and will  remain steadfast, no matter the intensity of the enemy’s assaults.  Ours is a defeated foe –  And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it (Colossians 2:15) – and it is a blessing to our souls to be reminded accordingly.
