ERLC – Are you slow to tweet?
Below is an overview of the second of two useful articles published recently on the Southern Baptist ‘Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission’ (ERLC) website which look at some of the challenges faced by parents and their families in this digital age.

“Are you slow to tweet” by Daniel Darling
The theme of a recent issue of the Light Magazine, published by the ERLC, is Civility and this is explored in an article titled “Are You Slow to Tweet?”. The message of the article is that Christians are not only tasked with speaking up and speaking out, but with doing so in a distinctly Christian way. God doesn’t just care that we speak, but also how we speak. The way we express ourselves can make the difference bewteen glorifying or dishonouring God. The author draws parallels from the Epistle of James and the exhortation “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath” James 1:19. The point is made that although the injunction “slow to speak” was made in the first century, it equally applies to the way conduct ourselves online and on the social media platforms at our disposal.
The article brings to mind the three questions we should ask ourselves when communicating, in whatever medium: “Is it kind?”; “Is it true”; and “Is it necessary?”
