CViE Events: RSE Briefings – March 2020, Harpenden & Crowborough

CViE have organised the following two briefing events in March, if the Lord will, to update parents and other supporters on ongoing developments with the new RSE guidance for schools:

  • Harpenden: Saturday 7th March @ 14:30-16:30
  • Crowborough: Saturday 28th March @ 10:30-12:30

Backgound:
One of the major concerns amongst Christian parents at the present time, is the introduction into schools of Relationship Education (Primary) and Relationship and Sex Education (Secondary).
 
Although the statutory guidance for Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education will be mandated (compulsory) from September 2020, schools have been encouraged to adopt the new curriculum prior to then, with many having already done so. At those schools where the guidance has yet to be adopted, they currently planning how it will be implemented.
 
There has been a lot of concern over the erosion of parental responsibility and the imposition of teaching that is contrary to the beliefs of many parents with the introduction of the Guidelines. Whilst the guidance will become mandatory, there is still a big role for parents to play in making their views known to individual schools in the ongoing development and implementation of policies for Relationship Education or Relationship and Sex Education.
 
As a consequence, if the Lord will, Christian Values in Education,  is planning to hold two briefing meetings to help parents and other interested parties in their understanding of the new Guidelines. The briefings will raise awareness of:

  • the background to the introduction of the new statutory Guidelines
  • the content of the new statutory Guidelines 
  • the rights of parents and the obligations placed on schools
  • how to keep abreast of developments and where to find out information
  • how to approach schools and express views appropriately

Each briefing will last between 1 &2 hours and be led by Michael Ridout (Chairman CViE) and Dan Sayers (CViE Trustee and Head Teacher)
 
Venues:
The briefings will be held on:

  • Saturday, 7 March 2020 at The King’s School, “Elmfield”, Ambrose Lane, Harpenden, Hertfordshire AL5 4DU at 2:30pm.
  • Saturday, 28 March 2020 at The All Saints Church, Church Road, Crowborough, East Sussex TN6 1ED at 10:30am

A crèche will be provided for younger ones and supervised activities for primary age children.
 
Tea, coffee and soft drinks will be provided.
 
All are welcome.
