CViE FEATURES: CED Exam Centre
Welcome to the eighth in our series of “CViE FEATURES” – today featuring the CED Exam Centre – where we profile a Christian organisation devoted to educating children and resourcing parents from a Christian worldview.
The CED Exam Centre is a Christian not-for-profit organisation on the Cheshire/Staffordshire border at Mow Cop Community Church set up so that home educated children have access to an affordable exam centre.
Fully accredited by the Cambridge board, CED offers Cambridge IGCSEs, A and AS levels. The CED Exam Centre exists to support and help Christian home educators achieve their aim of allowing their children to obtain nationally and internationally recognised qualifications. It also recognises that this is only a fraction of the reason why we home educate and so supporting parent led teaching within a committed and active Christian world view is also integral to their ethos. They acknowledge their greatest aim to be to honour God in all they do.
For many years CED has been a significantly lower cost option than a private exam centre for families (currently one subject is just over £70 to sit). This is possible because, uniquely, the parents (or someone they nominate in their place) undertake the role of invigilators (after an in-house training session). Parents are fully supported and always with another parent, with an exam security officer on hand to answer any questions.
Students and parents make a visit to Mow Cop Church prior to any actual exam. The exam season is roughly all of May (including the school half-term) and the very early part of June. Each exam begins with prayer as all look to the Lord to equip the children (whatever their result!) for the work He has for them to do.
